Whether he stays or goes next season, Maurizio Sarri has certainly had an impact in his first season with Chelsea.
The Italian has divided opinion at Stamford Bridge all year, but the statistics make for pretty impressive reading considering the scrutiny he has faced.
In fact, Sarri has won 39 matches in all competitions for Chelsea this season, with the only manager to hold more victories in his maiden campaign of the Blues was Jose Mourinho in the 2004/05, who won 42 matches.
Carlo Ancelotti has the same number of wins from his first season in charge in 2009/10, which ended with the Premier League and FA Cup.
Victory 39 earned the 60-year-old former Napoli boss the first trophy of his managerial career, as Chelsea swept aside Arsenal 4-1 in Baku to win the Europa League for the second time in their history.
Sarri also secured a third-place finish in the Premier League to ensure the return of Champions League football, while Chelsea were runners-up in the Carabao Cup, losing on penalties to Manchester City.
It has been a turbulent season for Sarri, one which began so promisingly, as he set a new managerial record by going 12 games unbeaten at the start of the campaign.
Following a 6-0 defeat to City in February, there were calls for Sarri to be sacked, even though he has two years remaining on his contract.
Juventus are understood to be stepping up their pursuit of Sarri following the final and Sarri reportedly has an agreement in place for a three-year contract worth £6.2million a year.
However, after victory in Baku, Sarri, who took charge last July, feels he should be allowed to continue in his role at Stamford Bridge.
“I need to talk to the club and make sure I know what I can do for Chelsea and what Chelsea can do for me,” said Sarri.
“I love the Premier League and I’m lucky I’m at Chelsea but at the end of each season you have to sit down and talk.
“In my opinion, I deserve to stay at Chelsea but my opinion is not enough.”
