Rangers legend Ally McCoist insists Neil Lennon deserves to be appointed the permanent Celtic manager.
Lennon has been offered the full-time post at Celtic Park after helping the club wrap up an unprecedented ‘treble-treble’ – winning nine domestic trophies on the bounce over three seasons.
The manager has said there is a ‘good chance’ he will accept the job, but his appointment is yet to be made official.
Lennon was appointed interim boss in February following Brendan Rodgers’ decision to move to Leicester mid-way through Celtic’s historic season.
The Northern Irishman returned to the club he previously led to three titles, having left Hibernian in January.
However, some sections of the Hoops support are against Lennon staying at Celtic Park beyond this season, as they are unhappy about the team’s dip in form this term.

But McCoist insists those signs were there well before Lennon came along, and believes he has proven worth another stint in charge of the Scottish champions.
“He’s been offered the job, and I would say most of the Celtic supporters are delighted with it, but some of them are having a moan – typical!
“That’s just amazing, only in Glasgow!
“In my opinion, when he took over the job he had just about everything to lose and not a lot to gain, because Celtic were so far in front.
“He was criticised, wrongly in my opinion, for their drop of form and the style of Celtic’s play this year.
“I felt clearly Celtic weren’t playing at the same level as they were in the year before, but I think the signs Celtic’s form had dipped came well before Neil went back to Celtic.
“I think he deserves absolutely enormous credit for getting them over the line.”
