Sanchez has struggled to recapture the form that made him such an attractive signing, having scored 24 Premier League goals in his last full season – 2016/17 – at Arsenal, with Manchester City thought to have been keen on him, too.

This would enable them to renegotiate an alternative exit route for the 30-year-old ahead of the 2020/21 season, particularly if he shows signs of getting back to his best.
