Frank Lampard has admitted he will talk with Derby County owner Mel Morris about his future.
The Rams boss watched on despondently from the Wembley touchline as Aston Villa secured a return to the Premier League after a 2-1 win on Bank Holiday Monday.
Defeat in the Championship Play-Off Final has definitely condemned Derby to another season in the second tier, but the futures of those associated with the club are less clear.
Stars like Harry Wilson, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomouri are all expected to return to their parent clubs after loan spells, while Lampard’s future is also a mystery to fans.
The former Chelsea midfielder has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge – IF the rumours surrounding Maurizio Sarri and Juventus prove to be true.
However, in the wake of the defeat to Villa, the 40-year-old remained coy when discussing his future with Ian Abrahams.
“Well I’m going to give you the exact same answer I gave the other day because it is true Moose,” he said.
“I’ve got two years on my contract, I’m meeting with Mel and the other meeting was nothing to do with talks or anything else.
“The talks with Mel are important because we have gone on a long way this year for different reasons.
“Loan players or not, it doesn’t matter. The club and I want to keep pushing on and Mel Morris has given so much to this club and talks are crucial on all fronts.
“They’re just to see where we are at and that’s where I’m at.”
