Former Sunderland and Manchester City forward Adam Johnson has expressed his ‘deep regret’ for the child sex offences that led to him being imprisoned for three years.
Johnson was released from prison last month after serving half of a six-year sentence for engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old fan.
The 31-year-old, who also played 12 times for England, admitted two charges relating to kissing the girl and meeting her with intent to groom her.
He was also convicted by a jury for a further offence of sexual activity after meeting her in his car – a conviction he appealed but failed to overturn.
