Tottenham fans finally return home as new stadium opens for Crystal Palace clash

Tottenham have returned home as they finally opened their new stadium against Crystal Palace.


The 62,062-seater arena is opening eight months late, but fans will probably say it will be worth the wait as it has been branded the best stadium in the world.

The supporters were in a party mood having said goodbye to Wembley – their temporary home of almost two years – and were invited to arrive early.


Gates opened three hours before kick-off where fans made their way in to enjoy the new facilities, including a 65-metre bar.


An opening ceremony, to commemorate the historic night in the club’s history started at 7.15pm.















Fans were treated to a marching band belting out famous Spurs chants of years gone by and an official opening ceremony will take place before the game gets underway at 7.45pm.


Fans will also be allowed to stay in the ground two hours after full-time as they are encouraged to spend their money on food and drink, though their desire may be affected by the result against Palace.


Players arrived just before 6pm to begin preparations for what has become a must-win game for Spurs.

The grand opening comes amid the worst spell of Mauricio Pochettino̢۪s reign, with Spurs winless in their last five league games and locked in a battle to qualify for next season̢۪s Champions League.


While there may be a party atmosphere around their breathtaking £1billion arena on Wednesday night, Palace will be keen to spoil the fun and boot Spurs out of the top four.
